Round of golf helps raise over £24K for local youth club

Ex England legend and Westhoughton born resident Franny Lee teed off for the 28th annual golf fundraiser in aid of Bolton Lads & Girls Club.

With more than 100 people from local businesses taking to the green, the event proved to be a huge success with over £24,000 being raised.

Forecasted rain and questionable weather didn’t deter the guests from enjoying the day as they descended on to the beautiful course at Bolton Golf Club.

With the event being sold out months in advance, businesses and individuals were keen to snap up one of the golden spots on offer to sponsor one of 18 holes set at £100 each.

Guests were not only treated to a round of competitive golf but also had the opportunity to indulge in fine food and participate in a luxury auction with exclusive prizes, to raise as much as possible for the Club. There was also an award presentation with Sandy’s All-stars coming out on top as the overall winners from the event.

Karen Edwards OBE, CEO of Bolton Lads & Girls Club, said:

This is our most successful golf event ever. We are thrilled with the funds raised and are excited about the difference they will make to our Towns youngsters. We couldn’t do it without the backing of the business community.</blockquote

Teams that participated included Eventura, Sherwin Williams, Watson Laurie Insurance Brokers, University of Bolton, Barton Grange Garden Centre, Cowgill Holloway, Kuits Solicitors, Seneca Partners, Taylor & Taylor Financial Services, BSX Limited, Kay Johnson Gee, The Professional Footballers Association – Bolton Wanders Legends, Haywood Accountants, Barlow Andrews, Orseal, Artorius Wealth, Mears Carpets and Knight Frank.

Shona Walsh, Head of Fundraising at Bolton Lads & Girls Club, said:

It has been a fantastic day! Despite all the efforts by mother nature to interrupt the day, everyone has been absolutely amazing in helping the day be a great success.

“I’d like to thank Francis and all the participants who signed up so far and helped to make the event a huge success and hopefully it’ll be the same again next year.</blockquote

The final total is expected to be over £24,000 which will help the Club continue with its support for its Award-Winning Mentoring Programme.
