Counselling Service

We offer children and young people counselling who have been impacted by trauma. Using a person-centered approach to help young people who need to talk to a qualified counsellor to help them with something they are struggling with. Counselling can take place at school or college or in a community-based site, on a 1-1 basis. Up to 12 sessions dependent on what is needed.

8-18 years old referrals can be made by professionals, GPs, parents and carers. We are finding that referrals made on their behalf can lead to distress when the counsellor organises an assessment that they are unaware of giving the nature of some of the reasons for referrals i.e complex social care issues ongoing. Therefore we strongly advise that young people must be involved in their referral so that they are aware it is being made and have consented to wanting the service.

A professional or parent needs to make the referral with consent from the young person and the parents/carers. All referrals are accepted through Bolton Together Hub which can be accessed here We generally do not work with young people already accessing CAMHS and receiving a service from CORE CAMHS or a specialist service. When a place becomes available, we will arrange an assessment.
