Family Assist Service

We offer short-term family support to parents and families who want help in getting back on track to look after themselves and keep the whole family safe. We work with families to increase knowledge, skills, confidence, and ability. Support could be around finances, physical and mental wellbeing, employment, housing, behaviour, structures and routines, or general family relationships.

We support families who are struggling with:

  • financial hardship
  • issues relating to childrens education
  • lower level parental mental health
  • housing
  • parenting/family dynamics
  • accessing mainstream support.

Our worker will draw up an action plan of targeted support and assistance with parents or carers to improve their family situation.

We find people generally prefer to meet face to face. However, due to Covid we know this will not always be possible, so it is important to establish if the parent/carer is able and willing to speak over a video call or on the phone.

After the initial assessment using the Family Outcome Star, we will establish an action plan and package of support, usually in 16 sessions, any further involvement after this is reviewed with service manager. Information will be fed into the Early Help meetings to ensure there is a multi-agency approach.

A professional or parent/carer can make a referral by emailing a completed Referral Form to families@blgc.co.uk. We welcome early help assessments but these must be sent alongside a referral form. If the family is not open to an Early Help, contact us. Please ensure the parent/carer are willing to accept support.

We will advise at the time of referral.
